68. Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisy

In this week’s episode, Kayla and Taylor discuss Monica Heisy’s 2023 novel Really Good, Actually. Topics include the state of female pop music today, hilarious (and sad) breakup stories, the Gay Marriage Experience, how amazing our spouses are, bisexual representation, shitty friends you have in your 20s, another social media rant (Dating Apps Edition), and the benefits of being alone.

This week’s drink: Frozen Bourbon Cherry Coke via @cocktails on Instagram

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 3 oz cherry juice (from a jar of maraschino cherries)

  • 8 oz Coke

  • Lots of crushed ice

  • Maraschino cherries, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add bourbon, cherry juice, Coke, and crushed ice to a blender. Blend until smooth.

  2. Pour into a highball glass and garnish with maraschino cherries

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 oz cognac

  • 1 oz light rum

  • 1 oz triple sec

  • ¼ oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed

  • Garnish: flamed orange peel

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add the cognac, rum, triple sec and lemon juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.

  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

  3. Express the oils from a flamed orange peel over the top of the drink, then discard the peel before serving.
